Bill grew this ball

over the years out of rubber bands that he used to package and identify some of the more delicate work instruments. As he broke many of the tools he owned with years of abuse, he would remove the color-coordinated rubber band designated to the item, and add it to this ball. So the ball represents the amount of equipment he has gone through in his quest to break through to other dimensions.
