Stitches

Multicolor Thread through Paper and Printed Photographs

Francis felt that the paper he initially drew and painted on would not accept the color and shape he was trying to apply to it with his hands. To add further frustration, the more he tried to apply to the page, the more his hands began to resemble tree branches, until he could no longer grip the pen or brush. He asked Lina Rae if there were some way he could construct above and below the paper as well as on it, and she offered to help him by stitching into the paper. Francis loved the results, and asked her to do the stitching herself, giving her no direction whatsoever, knowing that she could follow his vision without seeing it directly.

This would be their first of many artistic collaborations to come.
