Acrylic on Miniature Canvas

Initially overwhelmed by the possibilities of mixing colors in layers to convey movement over time, Francis would put layers upon layers of paint across small canvases to tell his story, frequently building up such a thickness that the layers of paint would equal the depth of the canvas itself. Similar to his watercolors, Francis realized his work on these would never reach a state of completion that adequately summed up the experience he was trying to convey, so he only finished these by abandoning them for more temporal mediums.
