Collection Three . Early Vision Artworks
After establishing the sky and ground with his watercolor dye series, Francis moved on to the next logical step, which was to demonstrate the movement of the trees' branches against the sky and ground. Using the same materials, he attempted to show both the color and movement as they appeared to him, but he discovered that he could only reach a close approximation by stacking several of these sheets together in an overlapping fashion. He made hundreds of these to go on top of each other, but ultimately gave up when he realized he would never reach his elusive goal.
